Blanc de Hotot

The Blanc de Hotot rabbit breed is a medium to large-sized breed that originated in France. The breed is characterized by its distinctive black eye bands and white fur. Blanc de Hotots are known for their calm temperament and friendly personalities, making them popular as both show rabbits and pets.

The breed was first developed in the early 1900s by Eugenie Bernhard, a rabbit breeder from Hotot-en-Auge in Normandy, France. Bernhard set out to develop a rabbit breed with a pure white coat and black eye bands, a trait which had previously only been seen in a few breeds such as the Checkered Giant. After several years of selective breeding, Bernhard succeeded in creating the Blanc de Hotot rabbit breed.

In addition to their striking appearance, Blanc de Hotots are also known for their hardiness and adaptability. They are capable of thriving in a range of climates and conditions, and are relatively easy to care for. They have a compact, muscular build and are known for their strong hindquarters.

Blanc de Hotots are a popular breed for showing due to their unique appearance and friendly personalities. They are also kept as pets, as they are known for being affectionate and good with children. However, like all rabbit breeds, they require proper care and attention to stay healthy and happy.
